Published Obituaries:
(Excerpts from the Obiturary of Mrs. Wm. Walters, mother of Charles S. Walters  - 4 Dec1888)
She [Mrs. Malinda Walters] was born in Jefferson county, Tennessee, in 1822, and was married at the early age of 15 to Mr. Walters who still survives her, but in feeble health.  They were the parents of six sons and three daughters.  One son, Barton S (Walters), was a member of co. A, 39th Illinois, and died at Annapolis in consequences of suffering in rebel prisons.  Another son [Charles S. Walters]  was also in the same company . . .
(Excerpts from the Obituary of Wm. Walters, father of Charles S. Walters - 25May 1890)
He [Wm. Walters] was a native of Clay county,m Kentucky, where he was born in 1813.  He came to Chicago in the spring of 1835, but not being well pleased with the mud and water of that then uninteresting locality, he pushed out in the fall for Joliet.  Having a little money, he at once invested in the purchase of a lot on northern Bluff Street [Joliet].  On this he at once proceeded to build a two story stone building, in the lower story of which he opened a grocery store. . .
In 1842 Mr. Walters and his family removed to the prairie a few miles west of  Channahon, where he opened a valuable farm on which he spent many year of hard labor and accumulated a comfortable competency. . .
In 1883 he purchaed the pleasant residence of Mr Carter [on Prairie Avenue, Joliet] to which he moved and where his wife, last year, and now himself, passed to the great beyond.
Mr. Walters had two sons in the war. . .
