    SHIFFER – John, aged 80 years, a Civil war veteran and a pioneer of Joliet, succumbed today to the infirmities of old age at his home, 609 Second avenue.  Deceased was sick 3 months.
      Funeral Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the United Evangelical church.  Rev. M. Hafelle, a former pastor of that church will officiate and the burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.  The Grand Army will attend the funeral.
