George Pickel
Was born in Albion, New York, July 3rd, 1839. In 1848 the family removed to this county and settled south of the then village of Joliet, on the Mill Road. He enlisted in Co. E, 100th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, August 8, 1862, and served till the close of the war with the best of a record as a soldier. His death occurred at the home of his brother, Charles (Pickel), one mile south of the city, on Monday, August 2nd (1909).
