Published Obituaries:
The Joliet News - Friday, January 24, 1913
News reached Joliet yesterday that the end came to U. Mack about noon and that the remains are on the way to Joliet where they are expected to arrive next Monday.  Burial will be made in Oakwood with all the honors of a solider of the Civil War.
Lieutenant Uziah Mack was born January 9, 1835, at Upper Mound Bethel, Pa., educated at the Milton academy and came west to Joliet in 1856.  He entered the wholesale and retail shoe business with his uncle Firman Mack.  Later on, in 1862, he enlisted in the 100th Ill. volunteers, and served with them throughout the entire war.  He was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant and mustered out with rank of brevet captain, and returned to the shoe business in which he remained until 1890, when he was succeeded by his son, Will P. Mack.
He became a member of the “Military Order of the Loyal Legion” an association composed of officers who fought in the Civil War.  He also will be remembered by old comrades as a member of the G.A.R.
Mr. Mack married Miss Jennie Fleming, of Truro, Nova Scotia, in 1867.
In 1883 he was married again to Miss Carrie M. Cagwin, of this city.  Two children were born to them.  Josephine and Francis, who are living with their parents in Tuscon, Arizona.  They have resided there the last four years, since Mr. Mack had retired from the real estate business in Joliet.
To his friends it seems but a short time since he gave up the cares of business and left Joliet.  He was an advanced citizen, highly regarded.
