Samuel Fitch Lindsey, son of the late Mrs. Adeline Lindsey and brother of Henry R. Lindsey, Mrs. Duke Simpson and Mrs. W.W. Talcott, of this city, died at the National Soldiers Home in Milwaukee, Wis., on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1897, in the 49th year of his age.
He was born July 15, 1848 in Ripley, Brown county, Ohio, and enlisted at the age of 15 in the Second Ohio heavy artillery in which organization he served two years.  He was taken prisoner of war at Sweetwater, Tenn., and for nearly a year suffered all the privations, hardships and horrors of Andersonville and other prison pens until released on parole near the close of the war.
Mr. Lindsey was a member of George A. Custer post, of Chicago, and for thirty years had held a responsible position in the employ of the Boston Oyster House which the condition of his health recently compelled him to resign.  His death was due to dropsy which, contrary to the expectations of his friends and physician, terminated fatally, soon after his removal to Milwaukee for treatment.
Besides his relatives in this city, Mr. Lindsey leaves four brothers, O.L. and J.B., of Chicago and A.W. and Lemuel of Cincinati, Ohio.  The remains arrived here this afternoon and the funeral will take place from the home of Mrs. W.W. Talcott, 218 Baker avenue, tomorrow.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10:30 from the residence 218 Baker avenue, Rev. McKay officiating.  Burial at Oakwood.
