      Nov. 29, [1898] James  Corcoran, of Joliet, aged 68 years. He was a veteran of the civil war from this county.

     James Corcoran, a veteran of the civil war, died on the afternoon of Nov. 30th of dropsy of the heart.  The disease had been making quite rapid progress, and it was finally decided to remove him to the hospital.  The ambulance was called, and the sick man carried out on the stretcher.  Just as the doors of the ambulance closed, Corcoran was seen to move slightly.  An attendant reached over, and it was seen that he had passed away.             
     Mr. Corcoran was 68 years old, having been born in Otsego county, New York, in 1838.
     For forty years he had been a resident of this city.  He enlisted as a private in the civil war and was a member of company E, Thirty-seventh regiment.
