William H. Birdsell, veteran of the Civil War and a resident of Joliet for more than 80 years, died this afternoon at 1 o’clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.F. Skeel, 120 Dewey avenue.

Death was hastened by a fall which Mr. Birdsell had last week, when he slipped on the ice in the rear of his residence, 202 Hyde Park avenue.  He was taken to the home of Mrs. Skeel, but he failed to rally from the shock.  He had been in failing health for some time.
Mrs. Birdsell was a native of Canada, and in his younger days conducted a general store in Minnesota.  Coming to Joliet, he accumulated some property, and the care of this has occupied his attention every since.  Mrs. Birdsell died July 29, 1904.

One son and four daughters survive.  The son is Charles M. Birdsell, of Joliet.  The daughters are Mrs. J.F. Skeel, Mrs. J.J. Ducker and Mrs. A.E. Vance, all of Joliet, and Mrs. C.A. Huber, of Tama, Iowa.
Mr. Birdsell was a member of Bartleson Post, No. 6, Grand Army of the Republic.

Funeral notice will be given later.
